Ahh, multiple debuts again. At 16, a song that I didn't remember being on my list jajajaja "Cowboys" by Portishead, another trip-hop song, cool, but not their best. At 17, probably the best song by Natalie Imbruglia, "Smoke" which features a great video, really simple, really really simple, but effective. At 19 Mariah Carey re-debuts with her song "Whenever You Call", a song she had been in the chart with before, but this time reinterpreted a duo with Brian McKnight. And finally at 20, Radiohead.

Something more approachable from "Homogenic". "Alarm Call" was the 4th single from that album. While the song retains the sound of the album, it's a bit poppier and not that serious. The video was cool, really cool!

Only one new entry, George Michael with "Outside". Everybody knew about his arresting for exposing himself to that one cop, so kinda to take the piss out of the situation, he made this video where he's dancing in a bathroom and stuff, a very sexy video, so I think after that, people saw that it wasn't affecting George anymore and everybody moved on. The song was much more upbeat than anything on his album "Older" his masterpiece for me. And from here on, I haven't really enjoyed his music.

Eros Ramazzotti released some singles from his "Eros" compilation, and those were the days when I was still very enthusiastic about his music. "Musica E" (with a reversed accent there) was sang by Eros himself and the opera and pop singer Andrea Bocelli (a man, despite his female name), an long opus with many changes and very opera-like, one of the bmost brilliant moments of Eros career so far, and if not brilliant, at least one of his most surprising moments. Debuting also, the teenage pop sensation 'N Sync, with their first single. I remember that during these times, people at college used to think I knew much about music (good feeling, but I know more now than then) so it was me who first introduced them to this group. Today, everybody knows who they are, and of course, as with many pop idols, one of their members (Justin Timberlake) became a star, and has had a lot of undeserved praise, cause well, i think his music is shit and it's amazing how many people are fooled into thinking he's the hottest thing right now... yeah, I vented. And finally, another double song entered the chart, this time it was REM with their single "Daysleeper", that I coupled with "Why Not Smile" a wonderful song that even when it was on the album, it was also included on the single, so yeah, that was it, beautiful songs.

My obsession with DMB had began, so in my cousin's house, once they let me record this episode of Hora Prima on MTV, where they had Dave Matthews Band as guests, they played a few songs and videos, and one of those videos was "Crash Into Me", a LOVELY ballad, really beautiful, even if the lyrics are kinda stalker-ish. The video for that song I think would be my favorite video ever by any artist, great work there. And Madonna also debuts with a new single from "Ray Of Light"

The run you will witness that Radiohead will have in the few next charts, was mostly fueled by a late response by me, I already knew the song and kinda liked it, so in a horrible decision, I decided to finally chart it and since the song wasn't new, it would peak and fall fast, and that's what happened. "Karma Police" remains one of their best songs. Then, at 19, Chris Isaak enters with the first single from his "Speak Of The Devil" album, the song "Please". I have to admit that this album is maybe my least favorite Chris Isaak album, but as someone else once said, Chris can't make a bad album even if he tries, so good music here. And at 20, Carlos Ponce shows he's not just a gorgeous man, but he can make good music too. "Rezo" was a hit at least in México, and set the trend for like a couple of more albums, where his first singles did well, but second or third ones just flopped. Good song.

Garth Brooks made "Two Piña Coladas", I suppose, as a fun song, with no lyrical depth but catchy as hell... however, the novelty wears off quickly, or at least that's what happened with me, still, it makes "Sevens" (the album where it's included) one, if not the best country album I have heard. Tori Amos, the queen of my chart scores the highest debut this week with "Raspberry Swirl", a great rock/dance hybrid that was even nominated for the Grammys for Best Female rock performance or something like that, one of the highlights of her Choirgirl album. At 6, the band Ben Folds Five enter with the bittersweet ballad "Brick", its music is calm and beautiful, even if the lyrical content is not, great song! And finally at 18, Embrace, with one epic power ballad called "Come Back To What You Know", very strong single.

That Robbie Williams song hit home with me, maybe not that much in the long run, but for some days I had "Killing Me" all over my head because of the lyrics, a quiet song, really lovely. And yes, Robbie is another of those artists that used to make good music. At 20, Smashing Pumpkins enter the chart with "Perfect", and for being an alternative band, their album "Adore" sure was very tame and poppy, but not bad at all.

At 16, PJ Harvey is the guest vocalist of Tricky on the song "Broken Homes", this was her first appearance in the chart, the song is haunting and the best one on the Tricky album "Angels With Dirty Faces". At 18, Madonna enters with one of her best songs "Drowned World/Substitute For Love", to this day it's still weird that this song was chosen to be a single, mind you MTV didn't play the video but whatever. And coming at 19, Sash! with "Mysterious Times"

Oh yeah, back in the day, let me tell you, Live were an awesome band that played alternative rock very loud and distorted and with great results... too bad they are a joke nowadays... anyway, here, they were debuting at number 1 with this classic "Heropsychodreamer" a rocking song dealing with gay thematic, really great! Then, much lower, Gloria Estéfan enters with "Oye", second single from her album "Gloria!", this was a really catchy song with a spanish chorus (and a spanish version as well) that was really the highlight of the album for me. At 15, Bush debut with this song that was remixed by Tricky, the song "In A Lonely Place". It is a dark song, slow and long that could be, if not paying attention, heard as a boring song, cause well, the song does not evolve, it just kinda drags, but I like it. Then, here, Dave Matthews Band make their great first appearance in the chart with "Don't Drink The Water", the first song I had heard of them. With Alanis Morissette singing background vocals, this song is raw, powerful and still to this day, my favorite song by them. And the debut at 20 comes by Brandy & Monica.

So sad to see Tori Amos leaving the chart with that awesome "Spark". Anyway, the replacement was "Closing Time" by Semisonic. I liked the song enough. And I received money from a scholarship or something like that... that in reality was just a few bucks. Anyway, I decided to spend the money in something good like a cd, and so I went with my cousin to buy music. He suggested me to buy Semisonic's cd, but I wasn't sure if I would like it, still my cousin insisted and finally I gave in. The first play was not to my liking, and I wanted to return it jajaja but who would've thought? I LOVE "Feeling Strangely Fine" to this day, it's probably in my top 20 albums of all time. "Closing Time" is great and the cd is full of great songs.
